What is a "water sculpture"?

Water sculptures are composed of pools formed in natural stone that allow water to cascade from one tier to another. A constant recirculating pump keeps the water moving. The effect is the illusion of a water fall with an unlimited source of water. For examples of our sculptures visit our gallery.

Is it real stone?

All of our sculptures are made of 100% real stone. We enlist an arsenal of complex stone carving equipment, as it is not easy to carve extremely dense rock. We handpick every stone to ensure the utmost in quality and longevity. The stone we currently use is a form of sandstone created by glacial pressure in the mountains of the East Coast.

Where can I see one in person?

We have recently began consigning our products to retailers and garden centers. To find a reseller near you, click here. If you live in or are visiting the Upstate New York area, feel free to call or eMail us to make an appointment to visit our studio. Our phone number can be found on the contact page.

Do you deliver and install them?

Yes! We have delivered and installed over 800 water sculptures to locations along the East Coast in the last 10 years. Most of these installations can be found within the Upstate NY area, but we do deliver out of state. Depending on the distance from our studio, we may have to charge a delivery fee to compensate for fuel and time. Contact us for more information.

What kind of maintanence is required?

There is very little maintainence involved in water sculpture ownership. Rare algae growth can be eliminated by draining the pools and spraying them out with a normal garden hose. The pools are coated with a protective nonstick polymer for easy cleaning. The pump is also maintainence free and has only one moving part. If you should have issues with the pump, go here. Also, water may need to be added occasionally due to evaporation losses. The amount of evaporation depends on the water capacity of your sculpture. Smaller sculptures generally require more frequent addition, and larger ones may only require addition once a year.

[BACK TO QUESTIONS]

Are water treatment chemicals safe to use?

Yes. Any pool or fish tank anti-algae chemical is safe to use in your water, provided you follow the manufacturers instructions.

[BACK TO QUESTIONS]

Can it be run all winter?

While some of our customers have reported successful operation of their sculptures throughout the winter months, we suggest that the unit be drained and the hoses blown out to prevent freezing inside the pump. Information on this procedure will be provided upon installation of the sculpture. If need be, we can perform the procedure (local to Rochester, NY) for a nominal fee.

Do you sell wholesale to garden centers and landscapers?

Absolutely! We offer both consignment and direct sale options to resale outlets at reduced cost. Contact us for more information.

[BACK TO QUESTIONS]

Do the sculptures have any kind of warranty?

There is a lifetime warranty on the recirculating pump. We do, however, charge a small fee for installing a replacement, or you can pay to have it shipped and you can replace it yourself. The replacement can be done with common tools and products and we would include instructions that any capable person could follow. The stone does not have a warranty on it due to the fact that it is natural. We assure you, however, that these stone have lasted millions of years already, and the probability is that they will outlast your home.

Who is the artist behind it all?

Born and raised in Alleghany County, NY, David A. Spencer is no stranger to the outdoors. The inspiration for his art came to him while hiking in the hills of the majestic countryside. He was awe-struck to notice something that had been in front of him his entire life: The natural pools formed in stone by the currents of rivers and streams. The beauty amazed him and inspired him to create similar pools for placement into the human environment. This was the beginning of Natural Stone Water Sculptures.
